A special customized sea-rail intermodal train for JA Solar, a manufacturer of high-performance photovoltaic products, departed from Yiwu, East China's Zhejiang province on June 21.
This was the first customized sea-rail intermodal train service provided by Ningbo's Zhoushan port and HMM Shipping Agency Co.
Sea-railway intermodal trains have played an important role in meeting demand for import and export transportation for cities in Zheijang province such as Jinhua amid the latest COVID-19 outbreak.
To date, a total of 36,000 twenty-foot equivalent units have been carried by sea-rail intermodal trains run from Yiwu to Ningbo's Zhoushan Port this year, a year-on-year increase of 47.2 percent.
Founded in 2005, JA Solar is involved in silicon wafers, cells, modules and photovoltaic power stations. It ranks second globally in terms of module shipments. The company is one of the top 500 private enterprises in China.
In March 2020, JA Solar agreed to invest 10.2 billion yuan ($1.52 billion) in its photovoltaic cell and module production base in the Yiwu Economic Development Zone. The production base - the world's largest photovoltaic intelligent single-unit workshop - started operating after 142 days of construction. Its annual output exceeded 10 billion yuan in 2021.
