Yiwu in East China's Zhejiang province has seen rapid growth in cross-border e-commerce this year.

As of July 26, around 11.35 million bonded imported parcels of commodities sold online were sent from the Yiwu Comprehensive Bonded Zone this year. The value of supervised goods under Yiwu Customs exceeded 1 billion yuan ($148.13 million) during this period.

Huang Shaohua, operation manager of Yiwu Xinyi Supply Chain Management Co, said that despite rising operating costs due to the recent outbreak of COVID-19, the company's main business has maintained rapid growth this year – with sales exceeding 700 million yuan in the first half of the year.

According to officials, the rapid growth of the e-commerce bonded import business shows strong consumer demand in the domestic market. In addition, as the online shopping bonded import business supervises the cross-border e-commerce retail imported goods as imported goods for personal use, the business can help reduce the amount of time and money required of cross-border e-commerce companies.

So far, over 5,000 bonded import products have been brought into the Yiwu Comprehensive Bonded Zone to serve e-commerce platforms such as Tmall, NetEase Kaola and Pinduoduo.
