A 660-year-old osmanthus fragrans tree bloomed as scheduled in the Xiaofeng Ancestral Hall in Chi'an No 1 village, Chi'an town, Yiwu, on Oct 20.
The tree is more than 9 meters high. When it bursts into bloom, its fragrance pervades the whole village, attracting many visitors each year.
Osmanthus fragrans is a kind of small yellow flower that smells sweet and is loved by many Chinese. The little creamy yellow flowers are not conspicuous, but at the same there is no way they can go unappreciated.
The flowers are also used to produce osmanthus-scented jam, sweet cakes, dumplings, soups, and even liquor.
