Overseas individuals are now able to pay in Yiwu, East China's Zhejiang province, with domestic mobile payments, according to a launch ceremony held at the Yiwu International Trade Market on Oct 31.
The development of domestic mobile payment demonstration scenarios for overseas individuals is an important measure to help Zhejiang become a "province of mobile payment" and to support the development of the financial service environment for the Hangzhou Asian Games, according to officials.
Foreigners can use Alipay or UnionPay overseas wallets to bind their overseas bank cards and scan QR codes to pay at places piloting the service.
So far, more than 100 places in Yiwu, including local restaurants, hotels, large supermarkets and shopping complexes, have been providing such services, aiming to meet the needs of overseas travelers as well as foreign residents in the city.
