The Yiwu People's Mediation Committee for Foreign Disputes solved another heated argument on June 7.
The dispute originated on June 3 when Nigerian merchant Samuel placed an order with local trader Gong Beicheng for 20 electrical plugs. The dispute arose when Samuel said he believed the price to be for two plugs, as both the front and back of the plug was photographed, while Gong insisted that the contract stated a unit price for each plug.
Mediator Luo Yuejun began by delving into the root causes of the dispute and determined that both parties bore some responsibility. He then presented two potential solutions to resolve the conflict: either a compromise on the payment or a return of the goods for a refund.
Ultimately, Samuel returned the 20 items to Gong, who, in turn, refunded Samuel's deposit. The two parties shook hands, reconciled their differences, and signed a mediation agreement on the spot.
The Yiwu People's Mediation Committee for Foreign Disputes has consistently invited foreign mediators proficient in multiple languages and knowledgeable about trade to participate in dispute resolutions.
This practice has helped overcome language barriers while enhancing the affability and credibility of mediation, significantly improving the success rate of such proceedings.
