Yiwu's foreign trade exceeds 200b yuan in Jan-May
Yiwu Customs announced on June 14 that the total value of Yiwu's imports and exports reached 217.36 billion yuan ($30.39 billion) in the first five months of the year, representing a year-on-year increase of 18.7 percent.
Specifically, exports amounted to 192.43 billion yuan, an increase of 14.7 percent compared to the same period last year, while imports reached 24.93 billion yuan, a significant growth of 62.7 percent.
Africa remains Yiwu's largest trade partner. From January to May, Yiwu's trade with Africa amounted to 40.18 billion yuan, representing a robust growth of 29.8 percent. Trade with Latin America also witnessed substantial growth, with imports and exports totaling 32.1 billion yuan, a significant increase of 35.4 percent.
Yiwu's exports to India, Saudi Arabia, and Brazil reached 10.92 billion yuan, 5.28 billion yuan, and 5.23 billion yuan, respectively, with growth rates of 15.2 percent, 48.8 percent, and 44.5 percent.
Imported consumer goods make up the largest portion of Yiwu's trade. From January to May, Yiwu imported 13.62 billion yuan in consumer goods, an increase of 36.7 percent. These goods accounted for 54.7 percent of the total value of the city's imports.
Imports of beauty and cosmetics products and personal care items were valued at 2.45 billion yuan, an increase of 55.5 percent.
