Yiwu's exports to BRICS countries reach 31.76b yuan in first 7 months
Yiwu's exports to BRICS countries reached 31.76 billion yuan ($4.37 billion) in Jan-July, a year-on-year growth of 24.6 percent.
Foreign traders surnamed Dlamini and Nkosi from South Africa embarked on their quest for solar panels and energy storage devices in Yiwu. Accompanied by interpreter Chen Gang, they engaged in negotiations with Lin Jianxiong, a staff member of Zhejiang Jieerke Solar Technology Co.
South Africa joined the BRICS constellation in 2010. Since then, Dlamini and Nkosi have frequented Yiwu's markets, sourcing a myriad of commodities. Dlamini said, "Yiwu's exceptional quality and affordability resonate well in the South African market. Prior to the pandemic, I visited Yiwu five or six times each year, accumulating over 20 containers of goods, predominantly focused on luggage and bags."
Meanwhile, the industrious duo of Rik and Sanjay from India, with 13 years of business ties in Yiwu, attested to the thriving foreign trade climate.
"This year, foreign trade has been thriving. Some clients have placed orders two or three times, with quantities starting from several hundred pieces," said Sanjay.
There are currently over 2,000 Indian foreign traders in Yiwu. In the first half of this year, Yiwu's trade with India soared to 13.03 billion yuan, a 13.6 percent increase year-on-year.
The production lines at Yiwu Kangman Sports Goods Co are abuzz with workers delivering orders bound for Brazil. Hu Fangjun, the head of the company, emphasized that emerging markets, particularly in South America and Southeast Asia, have begun to outpace traditional Western markets.
With the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, being held from Aug 22 to 24 Hu expressed optimism about Yiwu's expanding trade ties with Brazil.
