Yiwu makes strides in high-tech industry
Yiwu, a county-level city in Jinhua, East China's Zhejiang province, achieved an investment of 13.3 billion yuan ($1.82 billion) in the high-tech industry in the third quarter of this year, a year-on-year growth of 148.2 percent and ranking first in the province, according to the Yiwu Science and Technology Bureau.
The strong performance indicates that the city's scientific and technological innovation environment has been recognized by entrepreneurs looking to pursue innovation and its industrial investment structure has been optimized, said a staff member of the bureau.
The staff member added that Yiwu is currently home to many high-tech companies including Zhejiang Aiko Solar Co, which is the world's second-largest producer of solar batteries. This was largely due to the implementation of a series of measures rolled out by authorities.
For example, Yiwu released guidelines on strengthening scientific and technological innovation in February this year, rolled out a raft of policies on attracting high-tech projects, cultivated high-tech enterprises, and provided subsidies.
The city had distributed 41.4 million yuan to high-tech companies as of the end of this September, which has effectively promoted investment in high-tech industries and improved the efficiency of technology transfer and industrialization of scientific and technological achievements.
