Chinagoods, Yiwu's trade service platform, recently opened its first physical store in Dar es Salaam's bustling Kariakoo market for trial operations, marking a new phase in Yiwu's global branding efforts.
Dar es Salaam, as Tanzania's largest city, serves as the nation's economic and cultural hub and is an important port in East Africa. The Kariakoo market is one of the busiest wholesale markets in Tanzania and East Africa, attracting tens of thousands of buyers daily. The Chinagoods store operates on a membership basis, with a strategic focus on serving the entire East African market from its central location in Tanzania.
The store's trial operation symbolizes a virtual shift of Yiwu International Trade Market to foreign shores, offering African merchants local access to a vast array of products. The goal is to gradually introduce Yiwu's 2.1 million product varieties to Kariakoo, simplifying direct overseas procurement.
A Zhejiang China Commodities City Group spokesperson highlighted Chinagoods' commitment to expanding its in-person model to support 75,000 market vendors and international buyers. The platform will foster joint ventures between Yiwu and overseas partners, streamlining the entry of Yiwu enterprises into the global market.
The Chinagoods store currently features hardware, daily goods, accessories, and luggage. Tanzanian merchants have expressed a strong demand for kitchenware and small appliances, prompting the Zhejiang China Commodities City Group to actively recruit merchants to meet this need.
