East China's Shanghai released an outline plan on the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region Jan 10, and Jiaxing in Zhejiang province is expected to usher in rapid development, according to local media reports Jan 14.

According to the plan, Shanghai will build a "1+8" spatial pattern ("1" means Shanghai, and "8" means the surrounding cities of Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, Nantong, Ningbo, Jiaxing, Zhoushan and Huahozu) of coordinated development with regional interconnection and cooperation. The "1+8" spatial pattern will focus on regional connections in terms of functions, transport, the environment and facilities, in order to promote the integrated development of the region.

The plan will give more support for promoting urban and rural cooperation across provinces and cities, including Jinshan and Pinghu, Fengjing and Jiashan in Shanghai and Jiaxing, and accelerate the coordinated development of interprovincial town circles, with the aim of pushing forward the co-construction and sharing of infrastructure facilities and public services.

Industrial chains in the manufacturing sector will be greatly optimized, and world-class manufacturing industrial clusters, focusing on electronic information, biological medicine, aerospace, new energy vehicles, intelligent connected vehicles and new materials, will be built in the region.

More attention will be paid to promoting the development of some platforms for interprovincial cooperation, such as the Shanghai Caohejing, Haining Technology Park in Haining, in an effort to accelerate the sound development of the whole industrial chain.

A multilevel, multimodal and efficient regional rail transit network will be built to expedite the movement of people, including the Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou High-speed Railway, and the Shanghai-Zhapu-Hangzhou Railway.

The plan also aims to carry forward the construction of the Hanzghou-Pinghu-Shanghai waterway, making it a beautiful river-sea intermodal transport corridor. The government will promote the development of a comprehensive information service platform for combined transport in an effort to develop multimodal transport and container transport.
