The fifth session of the Eighth Jiaxing Municipal People's Congress was held in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, on April 28, with 377 delegates in attendance.

Mao Hongfang, mayor of Jiaxing, delivered the municipal government's annual work report and highlighted several of the cities significant achievements.

In 2019, Jiaxing's regional GDP was 537.03 billion yuan ($75.87 billion), a year-on-year increase of seven percent, and the gross output of its industries above designated size exceeded one trillion yuan for the first time in the city's history, while the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents was 61,940 and 37,413 yuan, with respective year-on-year increases of 7.8 percent and 9.1 percent.

Mao also discussed the prevention and control of the novel coronavirus pneumonia in his work report, stating that Jiaxing has mobilized 160,000 volunteers to participate in prevention and control work, sent 104 medical workers to aid Hubei, and issued a series of policies to support local companies.

He concluded that economic and social life in Jiaxing is now returning to normal.

During his presentation, Mao also outlined a roadmap for economic and social development in 2020.

The year 2020 is the final year in China's plan to build a moderately well-off society as well as the last year of its 13th Five-year Plan, Mao noted. He proposed a year on year increase of seven percent in regional GDP and in per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents.
