The Jiangnan water town cultural heritage reserve in Jiashan county and the silkworm weaving cultural heritage reserve in Tongxiang county have been listed as candidates to become provincial cultural heritage reserves by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism.
Jiashan is one of the birthplaces of the ancient Wu Yue and Majiabang cultures and is home to numerous cultural relics.
As of June 2020, the county has one cultural heritage site under State protection, six under provincial protection and 50 under county protection.
In addition, it also has one State-level intangible cultural heritage item, 10 provincial-level intangible cultural heritage items, and 39 municipal-level intangible cultural heritage items.
Tongxiang has the most well-preserved silkworm weaving culture anywhere in Hangzhou, Jiaxing or Huzhou.
It has a history of more than 4,700 years of planting mulberry trees, breeding silkworms, reeling silk, and weaving silk fabric and has 6,666.67 hectares of mulberry orchards in total, with an annual silkworm cocoon production capacity of 7,000 metric tons, ranking first among county-level cities in Zhejiang.
