A summit focusing on environmental education for children was held in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, on Sept 19, local media reported.

The summit is aimed to integrate the environmental education resources in the Yangze River Delta region and discuss the establishment of an environmental education platform for children.

The event was organized by the Jiaxing Tongji Environment Research Institute and Shanghai Institute of Pollution Control and Environmental Safety and attended by experts from universities, institutes, nonprofit organizations, and companies in China.

An E-STEAM Environmental Science Camp program was launched at the summit, which will help 12 children improve their critical thinking ability and teach them about the natural environment.

Zhang Yixin of Soochow University believes that environmental education for children should begin at a very early age through family education.

"Growing flowers and plants at home is also a form of environmental education and would help children to better understand and care about nature," said Zhang.

In addition, an online summit will be held on Sept 26, during which Yu Lizhong, honorary principal of NYU Shanghai, Wang Jingying, a Beijing Normal University professor, and Kaisu Pallaskallio, founder of Code School Finland, will be invited to deliver an online speech.
