A planetoid was named after Feng Zikai, a famous Jiaxing native, at a ceremony held in Jiaxing on Sept 22, local media reported.

Xue Suijian, deputy director of the National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, read out the international naming communique and naming certificate at the ceremony.

The international permanent number of the planetoid is 79811. The last four digits coincide with Feng's birthdate – November 1898.

More coincidentally, the planetoid was discovered on Dec 9, 1998, the centenary of Feng's birth.

Feng once said that his heart was occupied by the god and stars in the sky and art and children on the ground.

Feng was a pioneer of modern Chinese comics and cartoon art, as well as a writer and art educator. His comics often integrated Chinese and Western techniques and conveyed profound messages. Feng also translated more than 160 foreign language books.
