Companies in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province participated in the culture and tourism products procurement fair held in Shanghai on Sept 23, local media reported.

As one of the local governments in charge of the fair, Jiaxing focused on the business conference market in the Yangtze River Delta region this year.

This year's fair encouraged participants to make online reservations in advance so as to facilitate onsite trade between exhibitors and potential buyers from around the country.

The culture and tourism industry in Jiaxing was severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this year, especially large business conferences in scenic spots and hotels.

"Jiaxing's advantages in terms of its location and low business costs are key to the rapid recovery of the local culture and tourism industry," said Zhang Shuo, director of the Jiaxing culture, broadcasting, television and tourism bureau.

Zhang added the overall revenue generated by convention travel is several times higher than that of traditional tourism, and many hotel groups in Jiaxing have shifted their focus to conference reception.

Over the past month, Wuzhen scenic spot in Jiaxing has provided venues to two conventions, each with more than 1,000 attendees, according to Cao Yangdong, a staff member at Wuzhen scenic spot.

After 10 years of development, the culture and tourism products procurement fair has grown into an important platform in China for those in the tourism industry to engage with each other.

The fair was recognized by the International Congress and Conference Association (ICCA) this year, becoming one of ICCA's main events.
