Jiaxing's foreign trade scale sees record growth

Jiaxing's imports and exports were valued at 440 billion yuan ($65.14 billion) in 2022, posting a record high year-on-year growth of 16.3 percent, local media reported on Jan 31.

The city's exports totaled 321.31 billion yuan, up 14.7 percent year-on-year, while its imports surpassed 100 billion yuan for the first time to reach 118.69 billion yuan, an increase of 20.6 percent year-on-year.

According to statistics from the Jiaxing Customs, the city's trade with ASEAN countries amounted to 80.32 billion yuan in the past year, a year-on-year increase of 41.3 percent, making it the largest trading partner of the city.

In 2022, the city's imports and exports to RCEP member countries reached 83.59 billion yuan, up 26.1 percent year-on-year.

The city's trade with countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative stood at 152.99 billion yuan, a 29 percent year-on-year increase.

Its trade volume with the European Union and the United States totaled 80.28 billion yuan and 68.81 billion yuan, up 18.4 percent and 1.3 percent respectively year-on-year.

Last year, the imports and exports of the city's private enterprises reached 297.6 billion yuan, accounting for 67.6 percent of the city's total, a year-on-year growth of 21.9 percent. Of that, exports were valued at 225.98 billion yuan, up 18.6 percent and accounting for 70.33 percent of the city's total exports, while imports reached 71.62 billion yuan, up 33.8 percent.

In addition, the export scale of cross-border e-commerce in the city increased 2.1 times from 2.86 billion yuan in 2021 to 8.90 billion yuan in 2022.
