Xiahe Pagoda stands on a hill by the Oujiang River to the east of Lishui in Zhejiang province and is a landmark of the ancient city. When people travel from Wenzhou to Lishui, whether by boat or by car, seeing the tower means they have arrived in Lishui.
Construction of Xiahe Pagoda began in 1585, the 13th year of the reign of Emperor Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and was completed in 1594, the 22nd year of his reign.
The pagoda has eight sides and nine floors. Apart from the stone in the tower base, the rest is built with black brick. Visitors can go up to the top by the spiral stairs.
