Huayan Pagoda, first built in 977 during the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), was named for the collection of the Huayan Sutra in the pagoda. In 1956, due to lack of awareness about cultural relics protection, the pagoda was demolished without official approval.
In 2008, the reconstruction of Huayan Pagoda started. After nearly two years of construction, the new pagoda was completed. It is an octagonal tower in Song Dynasty style, with eight floors and a height of 63.91 meters.
