In Heshang village, Yunhe county, Lishui in East China's Zhejiang province, villagers are talking about which wooden toys have been selling well on Taobao recently.

In 2014, Taobao e-commerce began developing in the village, and in 2019, villagers started to use livestreaming to sell goods. Now, with a population of about 1,100, Heshang village makes an annual income of more than 100 million yuan ($14.13 million).

Yan Jun, a 28-year-old villager, has been selling wooden toys on Taobao for four years. In 2019, he turned to livestreaming to promote his goods, and his family of five all became livestreaming anchors instead of farmers.

With monthly sales of more than 3 million yuan, Yan Jun plans to expand his online business, aiming to reach annual sales of 50 million yuan.

"Twenty years ago, the average household income in the village was less than 10,000 yuan. Now every household is selling wooden toys through online platforms, and the average household income is at least 200,000 yuan." said Zhang Xirong, deputy director of the village committee.

According to statistics, in 2019, the village sold more than 160 million yuan worth of goods via livestreaming. The village has attracted more than 4,000 migrant workers from Guizhou, Hunan and Anhui provinces, and is expected to sell 200 million yuan worth of goods this year.
