On the north side of the Jiaxing Nanhu Scenic Area, is the Qingyuan Ecological Products Exhibition and Sales Center. The 160-square-meter store displays more than 20 kinds of agricultural products, such as sweet tangelos and mushrooms, with the logo Qingyuan 800 printed proudly on the packaging, attracting a number of tourists to shop there.

Qingyuan 800 is the main agricultural regional public brand developed by Qingyuan county, located in Lishui city in East China's Zhejiang province, which is rich in mountain resources. There are more than 40 million sq m of alpine terraces there, positioned at over 800 meters above sea level.

High in the mountains, the light is abundant and the temperature varies widely from day to night, creating an environment that allows the cultivation of special agricultural products including Qingyuan shiitake mushrooms, castanea henryi and Grifola frondosa.

Regular vegetables such as broccoli and tomatoes that grow in the high mountains are favored by the market because they are freer of contaminants and boast more nutrients and a great taste.

However, the high mountains have also proved to be something of a barrier. Because of the inconvenience of transportation and the lack of information, agricultural products from there have had a low profile.

For this reason, Qingyuan established the Qingyuan 800 brand two years ago. It undertook standardized packaging and marketing of agricultural products that are produced at over 800 meters above sea level and encouraged the implementation of agricultural standardization and modern production, so as to open up the market.

The county has even opened ecological agricultural products exhibition centers in cities, including Zhejiang province's Yiwu and Hangzhou.

Through a combination of online and offline services, this year's sales of Qingyuan 800 products generated more than 16 million yuan ($2.45 million).

Meanwhile, local farmers have worked together to promote the brand and seek its joint development. About 30 family farms, cooperatives and other agricultural entities in Qingyuan jointly established a Qingyuan 800 production and marketing consortium to share sales channels and their knowledge of cultivation.

To date, the Qingyuan 800 consortium has authorized 25 endorsements of agricultural products.
