Tangelo fruit produced by the Waipojia Fruit Specialized Cooperative in Qingyuan county – administered by Lishui city in East China's Zhejiang province – recently received the China Good Agricultural Practice Certification, or GAP.

Tangelo is a man-made fruit created from a hybrid between a tangerine or mandarin orange and a grapefruit and the cooperative is the first tangelo production base in the county to receive the certificate.

After China's entry into the World Trade Organization, GAP certification has become an important factor for the import and export of agricultural products. With GAP, products have a stronger competitiveness in both domestic and foreign markets.

Qingyuan has reportedly been encouraging its large-scale agricultural production centers to apply for GAP since 2020. The certification is expected to play an active role in promoting the standardization, modernization and internationalization of its local agricultural products.
