An integrated conservation and restoration project for the mountains, rivers, forests, farmland, lakes, grass and sand – in the area surrounding the source of the Oujiang River in Lishui city, in East China's Zhejiang province – recently received central government funding of 2 billion yuan ($309.7 million).

The project has five major elements: the protection of major ecosystems and biodiversity, forest conservation and restoration, water conservation and restoration, land conservation and restoration, as well as digital supervision.

Officials said measures will be undertaken in line with local conditions and include the strict protection of the environment, natural restoration, assisted regeneration, ecological restoration and environmental governance measures.

It is believed that the implementation of the project will provide a more solid ecological security barrier for the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region.

It is said to have had the biggest allocation of central funding for this kind of single project in Lishui so far.
