Lishui athletes get ready for Tokyo 2020
The list of the Chinese Olympic team for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games taking place from July 23 to Aug 8 was recently announced and two athletes from Lishui city in East China's Zhejiang province – Wang Nan and Liu Yaxin – will represent the country in the women's kayak four 500 meters and the women's 200m backstroke events, respectively.
Wang Nan
Wang Nan was born in Qingyuan county, administered by Lishui, in September 2000. She has loved sports and has shown a talent for water sports since childhood.
She joined the Zhejiang kayak team in July 2014 and won the national championship in 2015.
Wang is the first athlete in Qingyuan to participate in the Olympics.
Liu Yaxin
Liu Yaxin was born in the county-level city of Longquan, administered by Lishui, in June 1999. She took up backstroke at age six, with her extraordinary physical condition and swimming talent quickly attracting the attention of the coach.
Liu Yaxin participated in the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games. In the women's 200m backstroke semi-finals she came in 4th and was 7th in the final.
A total of 33 athletes from Zhejiang are taking part in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
