A meeting held to study the proposed upgrade of facilities at Grottoes No 8, 9 and 10 in the Xiandu Scenic Spot – located in Jinyun county, administered by Lishui city in East China's Zhejiang province – was held on Aug 13.

The grottoes in Jinyun boast a long history and grand scale and they are well-preserved and still in good condition.

Under the project, plans are for Grotto No 8 to have a study with a tea room for visitors to experience Jinyun's tea ceremony. Elsewhere, Grotto No 9 – with a big space and great acoustics – will be used as a lecture hall or a stage for local opera performances and the unique spatial geometry of Grotto No 10 has been deemed the perfect place for visitors to appreciate and learn about Jinyun's quarrying technology and history.

The upgrading of the grottoes will reportedly raise the profile of the cultural resources in Jinyun and add momentum to the development of the Xiandu Scenic Spot.
