Suichang county – administered by Lishui city, in East China's Zhejiang province – is exploring the path to combining the digital economy with an eco-friendly commercial ecosystem, reportedly with some success.
New resident companies say the bucolic charms of the region fit very well with the high-tech sector.
"The first documentary we filmed after entering Tiangong City went viral on the internet. Many netizens say they would like to take a look at the place where it was shot," said Yu Yi, manager of Shell Media.
Shell Media is just one of many companies that have settled in the Tiangong City-Digital Green Valley – located in Suichang.
In 2019, the county initiated a project called Tiangong City to develop a digital and green economy.
Tiangong City covers the four townships of Hushan, Jinzhu, Shilian and Dazhe and the core area is located in Hushan, covering about 267 hectares. It mainly focuses on the integrated development of cultural, agricultural and technological innovations.
Last year, Suichang signed cooperation agreements with a number of leading digital economy companies including NetEase and China Electronics Technology HIK Group Co Ltd.
In addition, many companies are exploring a balanced "digital + ecology" system. "Our cultural products can serve as a bridge to promote the value conversion of ecological products," said Shell Media's Yu Yi.
"Next, we will build similar cultural products based on the local characteristics of Suichang and help both the county and the people to be prosperous," said Yu.
Statistic show that since 2020, the Tiangong City-Digital Green Valley has added 517 new market players, with 221of them being digital companies.
