Perhaps less well-known is the fact that the Qianjiangyuan-Baishanzu National Park is part of the former Southwest Zhejiang Revolutionary Base, which encompasses Kaihua county, Lishui city and part of Wenzhou city, as well as a few counties in the mountainous region.

As the birthplace of the "revolutionary spirit of Southwest Zhejiang", the national park is a natural and cultural inheritance that should be cherished, according to Xu Jiang, vice-president of the Chinese Federation of Literary and Art Circles and a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. "It will serve as a model of coordinated development that will protect the environment and improve livelihoods, something that the other regions could learn from," Xu said.

The park is considered a quintessential example of man and nature living in harmony, and of the theory that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets", an idea put forward by the Communist Party of China leadership that has won broad support nationwide.

When the revolutionary forebearers fought in this area during the 1920s and '30s, they knew their fine traditions would be passed on.
