Lishui, a city in East China's Zhejiang province, has made the list of the 2022 pilot cities and State-owned forestry farms for forest carbon sinks, which was recently published by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration.

Eighteen cities and 21 forestry farms were included in the list.

The forest carbon sink pilot project is one of the steps taken to help achieve carbon neutrality.

Lishui has always been at the frontier of developing forest carbon sinks.

In 2016, the Jingning She autonomous county and Suichang county in Lishui started a project involving the bamboo forest carbon sink that achieved an annual average carbon sink of 94,200 metric tons.

Last December, Lishui established the forest carbon sink administration, the first of its kind in China, to boost development in this field.

Official statistics show that the forest carbon stock in the city in 2021 was over 45 million tons, an increase of 8.32 million tons (excluding bamboo forest) from the previous year.

To date, the forest coverage rate in Lishui stands at 81.7 percent, one of the highest in China.

According to the officials of the Lishui forestry bureau, the city will strive to become a trading center for forest carbon sinks in eastern China by 2025.
