The city of Lishui in East China's Zhejiang province is set to take the lead in low-altitude sports tourism in China, thanks to a multi-billion yuan project that was signed during a recent meeting on the integration of culture and tourism.

Low-altitude sports are aerial sports carried out closer to earth, like hang gliding and base jumping and are becoming increasingly popular with thrill seekers.

The Jinyun Yangshang Aviation Sports and Health Center project, which has a planned investment of 1.5 billion yuan ($217.92 million), is one of 10 major new cultural and tourism projects signed throughout the province, each with an investment of over 1 billion yuan.

This project, covering a total planned area of 6.7 square kilometers, is set to showcase horse culture while providing opportunities for health and wellness. It will offer a range of low-altitude sports events, including hang gliding, tri-wings and equestrian sports.

It will also feature water sports, RV campsites, mountain amusement park experiences, pastures and themed vacation hotels, catering to visitors from all walks of life.

Lishui has been steadily expanding its tourism offerings in recent years, leveraging its mountain resources to create a popular destination for mountain leisure tourism in China.

The Jinyun Yangshang Aviation Sports and Health Center project is set to take low-altitude tourism to the next level, with plans to bid to hold the Hang Gliding World Cup, as well as to stage equestrian field events, off-road endurance races and other exciting sports events.
