Schott China, the unit of German specialty glass manufacturer Schott, launched its first pharma industry amber glass melting production tank in Jinyun county – administered by Lishui city in East China's Zhejiang province – on April 19.

The company said it marked a new milestone in its glass tubing business in China. The facility manufactures a high-quality material that is converted to pharmaceutical containers, such as vials, ampoules, or syringes.

The new tank mainly produces high-quality borosilicate pharmaceutical amber glass tubing. The facility will realize the local production and supply of both colorless and amber glass tubing in China, ending the dependence on imports for high-end pharma glass.

Wang Zhengfei, Party secretary of Jinyun county, attended the opening ceremony. He said the launch was another major event in the cooperation between Jinyun and Schott, as well as a splendid achievement for Jinyun's high-quality development.

Wang added that Jinyun wanted to create a first-class business environment and expand more cooperation space with Schott in various fields.

Patrick Markschlaeger, executive vice-president of Schott's glass tubing division, said that by introducing the core technology of glass melting, the group had achieved a fast and stable local supply of pharmaceutical borosilicate colorless and amber glass tubing.

This, he said, would further strengthen its commitment as a reliable partner for the Chinese pharma industry.

Lukas Meyer, deputy consul general of Germany in Shanghai, also attended the ceremony.
