Lishui posts 5.9 percent GDP growth in Q1

Lishui, a city in East China's Zhejiang province, saw its gross domestic product, or GDP, expand 5.9 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of this year, ranking fifth in the province, according to official data.

The growth rate was 1 and 1.4 percentage points higher than the provincial and national levels, respectively, according to the Lishui Municipal Bureau of Statistics.

The added value of the primary industry increased 5.4 percent year-on-year to 1.85 billion yuan ($268.36 million), the secondary industry rose 2.9 percent to 15.41 billion yuan, and that of the tertiary industry climbed 7.8 percent to 26.58 billion yuan.

Investment, consumption and foreign trade – the three engines of the national economy – all registered positive growth in Lishui in the first quarter.

The city's fixed asset investment grew 11.2 percent year-on-year, with investment in high-tech industries, transportation and water conservation and energy, manufacturing, and private projects surging 53.5 percent, 46.4 percent, 34.5 percent and 13.9 percent, respectively.

The total retail sales of social consumer goods reached 21.63 billion yuan, up 7.6 percent year-on-year. Catering revenue increased by 24.8 percent and commodity retail increased by 11.9 percent.

In addition, the city's exports increased by 7.4 percent year-on-year, ranking eighth in the province.
