The third Zijin Bayberry Festival opened on May 17 in the Liandu district of Lishui city in East China's Zhejiang province, showcasing the achievements of the bayberry industry in the district.
The festival will run to late June, during which time visitors can enjoy various activities such as picking bayberries, tasting local delicacies and experiencing rural culture.
Liandu district is one of the best areas for the bayberry industry in Zhejiang and the third main producing area for the fruit in Lishui. The bayberries in Yangkeng village in the Zijin sub-district in Liandu district are among the earliest to ripen in the province.
Yangkeng village has been planting bayberries for some 40 years and the farmers have accumulated rich experience in cultivation and management.
Over the past two years, the village has successively introduced digital technologies and equipment and built a 110 mu (7.33 hectares) intelligent bayberry greenhouse, currently the largest single bayberry greenhouse in the area.
Moreover, technology has enabled Zijin's bayberries to introduce standardized production. At present, the planting scale of bayberries in Zijin has reached 3,500 mu. Indeed, the bayberry has become a pillar industry in the area and the main source of income for local farmers.
