Ancient Chinese porcelain artifacts that were excavated in the United Arab Emirates have returned to China for a cross-cultural exhibition at the Longquan Celadon Museum in the county-level city of Longquan in Lishui city, East China's Zhejiang province.

The exhibition, which opened on May 22, is displaying 117 pieces of porcelain, including 30 from the Palace Museum in Beijing, 55 from the city of Ras al-Khaimah, and 32 from the Zhejiang Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology.

Longquan celadon, a type of green-glazed porcelain produced in Longquan city, was one of the main commodities exported by China during the Song (960-1279), Yuan (1271-1368) and Ming (1368-1644) dynasties. It was widely distributed and appreciated along the Maritime Silk Road.

Located at the exit of the Persian Gulf, Ras al-Khaimah was an important node of the ancient Maritime Silk Road. Over the past some 50 years, archaeologists have discovered a large number of Longquan celadon specimens at the trading town of Julfar, a historical site at Ras al-Khaimah.

The exhibition also aims to showcase the value that Longquan celadon had in fostering diplomacy.

The exhibition will last until Aug 18.
