Shangshe village, located in the western part of Baishanzu National Park – in Lishui city in East China's Zhejiang province – is widely regarded as a hidden gem among the green hills and valleys of the region.

It boasts rich forest resources, fresh air and beautiful scenery, earning it the reputation of being a "village in a painting".

To reach it, you have to travel about 25 kilometers from Longquan city – a county-level city administered by Lishui – through winding mountain roads and pass by a forest of ancient trees on the hillside.

The houses in the village are scattered about on the slope, with mud walls and green tiles that form a harmonious contrast with the natural landscape.

Behind the village, the mountains stretch out like a screen, with green hills on the left resembling a flying dragon and hills on the right looking like a jumping tiger. In front of the village, there are three layers of distant mountains embracing it.

The most striking feature of the village is the ancient maple forest. Most of the trees are two to three hundred years old and the oldest maple tree has a recorded history of more than 600 years.

As the village has become ever-popular, Shangshe residents have seized the opportunity to develop agricultural and rural tourism based on their original landscape and traditional culture. They've built various facilities and activities for tourists to enjoy the surroundings.

As a result, Shangshe village has been included in one of Zhejiang province's first batch of provincial-level traditional villages and China's fifth group of traditional villages.
