The inaugural "Boat Gang Culture Festival" took place in Dagangtou village within the Ancient Weir-Home of Painting (Guyan Huaxiang) scenic area in Liandu district, Lishui, Zhejiang province on Feb 3, marking one of the representative festivals in the scenic area.

Amid the bustle of gongs and drums, villagers and tourists participated in the sacrificial activity at the ferry wharf, praying for a healthy and happy life in the coming year. Following the blessings, eight black-awning boats simultaneously set sail, embodying a collective hope for smooth and safe journeys.

The "boat gang feast" is an important part of the festival. While its specific origins are unknown, the feast experienced its heyday in the village during the late Qing dynasty and the early Republic of China (c.1900-1920).

Dagangtou village has always served as a hub for water transportation, providing a place to rest and trade goods for boatmen and fishermen. During Spring Festival, as a means to alleviate homesickness, they would congregate their boats, eating and celebrating together. This gathering embodied the original form of the "boat gang feast".

While the form may have evolved over time, the tradition has been passed down for generations.

This time, the 100-meter feast was spread out in the ancient street, radiating strong local characteristics. The hospitable village, red lanterns, and authentic delicacies have garnered affection and praise from visitors from all over the country.
