An overseas Chinese dragon boat race commenced at Lake Victoria in Uganda on June 9, which also marked the beginning of China-Uganda Tourism Season.

Qingtian in Lishui, Zhejiang province is renowned for being the hometown of many overseas Chinese living throughout the world.

Two teams from the Qingtian Townsmen Association in Uganda participated in the competition and secured championship and runner-up positions.

Organized by the Chinese Embassy in Uganda, the event involved a total of seven teams from the overseas Chinese community and Chinese-funded chambers of commerce in Uganda, attracting nearly 500 spectators.

Fan Xuecheng, charge d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Uganda, stated during the event that the spirit of solidarity and collaboration embodied in the dragon boat race is a symbol of friendship and cooperation between China and Uganda.

He believes that the competition, along with the China-Uganda Tourism Season, will further enhance cultural exchange and friendship between China and Uganda.
