At the Yaxi rafting scenic area in Yaxi town, Liandu district, Lishui, workers are busy improving the rafting course and tourism facilities, according to local media on Nov 15.

"The project involves a 4.8-kilometer rafting course. After the renovations, rafting forward will be changed to rafting sideways so visitors can spin freely during the drift, which is more fun. Additionally, a circulating water system will be installed to ensure water is available during droughts," said Li Jinhui, the project manager.

The project, with a total investment exceeding 20 million yuan ($2.76 million), focuses on improving the visitor experience, surrounding facilities, and rafting services. The project is expected to be completed by the end of April next year and will be operational by summer.

"The renovation will not only enhance the overall tourism landscape along the drifting route but also add new facilities such as a visitor reception center and village cafes, further enriching the tourism experience," Li said.

Since opening in 2017, Yaxi rafting has been a favorite among tourists and locals. It has significantly boosted the local economy of the nearby Kuchuan and Jinzhu villages such as by employing over 40 villagers.

In the future, the Yaxi rafting scenic area plans to create a multifaceted experience area that includes water activities, vacations, and agricultural experiences.
