Coming from South America and Europe, 52 Chinese youth participated in a 15-day winter camp on Jan 6 at Bowen Middle School in Qingtian county, Lishui, Zhejiang province.

Over 15 days, students will be invited to experience traditional cultural activities such as Chinese painting, calligraphy, and the intangible cultural heritage item of fish-shaped lanterns.

They will also engage in various educational and entertaining projects to improve their language skills while gaining a deeper understanding of the essence of Chinese culture.

Qingtian is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese, with 381,000 former residents living overseas across 146 countries and regions. The county has organized overseas Chinese youth summer camps over the past few years that have attracted over 10,000 participants.

Catering specifically to the different needs, this is the first winter camp held by Qingtian for young oversea Chinese from Southern Hemisphere countries.

"For those of us who have lived abroad for a long time, although we are far from home, our hearts are always attached to our homeland. We hope that the culture of our hometown can be carried forward and promoted overseas," said Ye Wangyong, permanent honorary president of the Brazilian Qingtian Association.
