At the Beidou Cliff Ski Resort in Suichang county, Lishui, Zhejiang province, tourists are having a real blast at the nifty complex, perched at a heady elevation of 1,200 meters.

After donning professional ski gear, visitors bend their knees slightly, lean forwards, and whoosh down the slopes with ski poles in hand, taking in the intoxicating views of the surrounding mountains.

"The ski resort covers an area of 10,000 square meters, with an average slope of 7 degrees. It's not only suitable for skilled skiers, but also offers a great skiing experience for children and beginners," said Ren Linyan, the manager of Beidou Cliff Ski Resort.

Since its opening on Dec 22, 2024, the resort has seen a surge in visitors, with over 10,000 tickets pre-sold, according to Ren.

"Lishui boasts 3,573 peaks over 1,000 meters high. These mountains bring development opportunities," said an official from the Lishui municipal bureau of culture, radio, television, tourism and sports.

Leveraging its great resources, Lishui is developing winter sports across the city – promoting the integrated development of skiing with tourism, culture and sports events.

Winter sports have not only boosted mountain tourism, but also sparked keen interest in youth winter sports training programs.
