As Dragon Boat Festival approaches, the 2025 Qingtian Dragon Boat Festival cultural event kicked off on May 27 in Chuanliao town, Qingtian county, Lishui, East China's Zhejiang province.

This annual event, with roots dating back to the Southern Song Dynasty (1127–1279), is recognized as one of the provincial-level intangible cultural heritage items.

The opening ceremony featured traditional rituals such as worshiping the dragon boat head and cultural performances. After ceremonial blessings, the dragon boat race began, with the rhythmic drumbeats and synchronized paddling of competing teams creating a thrilling spectacle.

The dragon boat race included a dragon boat team composed of local residents, overseas Chinese, and international guests, highlighting the festival's international appeal. Arturo Algragel from Spain, participating for the first time, expressed his excitement and plans to share the experience with friends back home.

The event also celebrated the establishment of the Qingtian Dragon Boat Cultural Exchange and Practice Base in Barcelona, Spain, to promote this unique tradition abroad. Overseas Chinese from Qingtian have held the Dragon Boat Festival cultural events in Barcelona for the past seven years.

Similar events to spread this tradition internationally are planned for Brazil, France, and Germany, fostering cultural exchange.

The event also includes dragon boat races, traditional banquets, and various cultural activities over its five-day run.
