Longquan celadon shines at Chengdu World Games
The 12th World Games, held from Aug 7 to 17 in Chengdu, Sichuan province, features Longquan celadon from Longquan in East China's Zhejiang province as an official gift for international guests, adding a touch of Eastern culture to the event.
The standout piece, Xingfu Manjin, was crafted by Ye Fang, design director at Zhejiang Dongdu Cultural Creative Company, with contributions from cooper carving master Zhu Junmin and renowned designer Wang Jiafei. This masterpiece combines Longquan celadon and copper carving, two traditional crafts.
The design incorporates Chengdu's iconic elements — such as blooming hibiscus, golden ginkgo leaves, and the sunbird from the Sanxingdui Ruins — into a classic celadon vase, earning widespread praise for its elegance and cultural depth.

Zhejiang Dongdu has a history of promoting Longquan celadon globally, having featured in events like the Hangzhou Asian Games and the Paris Olympics. Their creations are celebrated for their craftsmanship and cultural significance.
Ye blended the vibrant essence of Sichuan's Qiong kiln with the gentle elegance of Zhejiang's Longquan kiln.
The creation process involved overcoming challenges in merging Longquan celadon and copper carving, requiring precise control over the dimensions. After 10 months of refinement, the piece was completed, featuring celadon, copper gilding, enamel, and 24-karat gold leaf.
