In order to improve intelligent manufacturing and cultivate more high-caliber talents, Wenzhou in East China's Zhejiang province is seeking closer cooperation with foreign organizations.
The Zhejiang Sino-German Research Institute of Smart Manufacturing and Innovation, a joint venture between Germany's Federal Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade (BWA) and Wenzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone (WETDZ), was unveiled on May 28.
BWA, founded in 2003, is an influential association involving Germany's leading companies in different industries. Currently, the organization has more than 1,400 member companies and offices in over 70 countries. It cooperates with a number of universities, training agencies, institutes and renowned companies to explore possible directions for industrial development and provide professional services to its members.
The other party in this venture, WETDZ, has been exploring a development path which relies on scientific and technological innovation and talents to bring about advances in intelligent manufacturing, digital economy and high-quality development.
Aimed at building a comprehensive platform with resources for industrial development and research, and providing quality services for companies and government departments, the research institute will strengthen Sino-German cooperation in the smart manufacturing sector and help Wenzhou move closer to its goals of industrial transformation and sustainable development.
According to the plan, three platforms, one for solutions to manufacturing problems, one for cooperation on scientific and technological innovation, and one for international talent exchange, will first be built.
Xu Pengbo, director of the administration committee of the South Zhejiang Industry Cluster which supervises WETDZ, said the jointly established institute is an important step in pushing ahead with the high-quality development of the region and is expected to help introduce new industries and new technologies.
