Wenzhou National High-tech Industrial Development Zone

The construction of Wenzhou National High-tech Industrial Development Zone (Wenzhou Zhenan Technology City) was approved by the State Council in August 2012. Covering 28 square kilometers, it is located in the core area of Wenzhou Eastward Strategy. The area boasts an advanced and multi-level transport network of airports, ports, railways and highways. Expressways such as the Airport Avenue, the Ouhai Avenue and the S1 line of the city railway stretch through the whole area. 

On February 1, 2018, the State Council approved the establishment of a national independent innovation demonstration zone in the area. The planned area of the innovation zone is 4.42 sq km, of which the construction area is about 4.21 sq km. 

The development zone focuses on four industries: laser technology, photoelectric energy, semiconductor lighting and optical communications. 

There are currently more than 2,000 enterprises settled in the zone, including 28 high-tech enterprises. It has built several innovation and entrepreneurship bases, including a national-level entrepreneurial service center and a foreign student entrepreneurship park. It also has a scientific and technological incubator covering 205,000 sq m.

In 2017, the total technical, industrial and trade income reached 31.30 billion yuan ($4.64 billion), a year-on-year increase of 58.7 percent. The industrial added value totaled 1.78 billion yuan and the research and development expenditure was about 266 million yuan. A fixed assets investment of 10.23 billion yuan was put into local industries. The zone attracted domestic capital of 1.5 billion yuan and foreign capital of $12.04 million.
