The center of Chanthu – the 14th typhoon of the current year – was about 285 kilometers  northeast of Wenzhou city, in East China's Zhejiang province at 8 am Monday, packing winds of up to 45 meters per second, according to the Wenzhou municipal meteorological observatory.

The typhoon is expected to move northwestwards at a speed of about 20 km per hour, weakening gradually and moving away from the city.

As of 10 am on Monday, Taishun county – administered by Wenzhou – had dropped its warning. Wencheng county still remained on yellow alert – the third-highest in the four-tier system – while the remaining counties and county-level cities and districts had lowered their alert status to blue alert.

The typhoon is forecast to bring showers or medium to heavy rain on Sept 13-14.

The temperature is predicted to rise significantly on Sept 14, with the highest temperature soaring to about 34 C.

The high temperatures are expected to remain until the middle and late part of this week and the temperature is projected to drop slightly later in the week.
