Six companies located in Yueqing – a county-level city administered by Wenzhou, in East China's Zhejiang province – were recently included on the list of "little giant" enterprises released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The official appellation is given to outstanding high-tech small and medium-sized businesses with high growth potential, advanced technology and a strong competitive edge.
The latest additions brought the number of "little giant" enterprises in Yueqing to 10, making it No 1 in Wenzhou.
Yueqing-based Zhejiang Beiliang Wind Energy Electronic Technology Co Ltd was among the latest of those to be honored with the title.
The enterprise has reportedly so far invested 5 million yuan ($776,683) into technical reforms and more than 20 million yuan in R&D, in a bid to develop its maritime wind sensors. Its sensor can reportedly measure the directions of the wind, atmospheric temperatures and humidity, providing solutions to the unstable signals at sea of general mechanical anemometers. The company's products reportedly generated output value of more than 100 million yuan.

"Wind sensors used to be imported from abroad. Our company started to enter the offshore wind power market in 2016 and then replaced the sensors with home-made ones," said Ye Li, deputy general manager of the group.
Plans are for the company to invest 6 million yuan in R&D and 5 million yuan in technological reforms every year to promote the intelligent development of the wind power market.
This year, the group is reportedly focused on the R&D and production of fiber optic sensors for wind turbine load monitoring, with the latest product being supplied to customers in small batches.
