Wenzhou athletes won a total of 19 gold, 13 silver, and one bronze medals at the 11th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 8th National Special Olympic Games, which came to an end in Northwest China's Shaanxi province on Oct 29.
The big two events mark the greatest achievement for Wenzhou athletes with disabilities.
Xu Jiahui, 30, widely known as the "Flying Fish from Wenzhou," pocketed three golds and two silvers and even broke the national records in the men's 4x100m medley relay and men's 50m backstroke hearing impaired open classes.
Xie Maosan from Taishun county said she felt honored to win two gold medals in the women's 500m kayak KL1 class and 200m kayak KL1 class.
"I still have a long way to go. I will keep improving and strive for an even better performance in the 4th Asian Para Games Hangzhou 2022," Xie said.
Dong Dehu from Rui'an, who has an upper-limb disability, won the gold medal men's over 75 kg Taekwondo event with a big score. He was a former silver medalist in the badminton and javelin events at the Zhejiang provincial para games in 2018 and he joined the provincial Taekwondo team for training the same year.
The Wenzhou deaf men's football team took part in the National Games on behalf of Zhejiang province and bagged a silver medal in the 11-player men's deaf football final. It was the first time for Zhejiang province to send a deaf men's football team to participate in the national games.
