A forum that gathered experts from home and abroad to brainstorm ideas for the innovation, protection, as well as promotion of traditional Chinese medicine was held in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province on Nov 8.

A keynote speech was delivered concerning Chen Wuze, a TCM doctor of the Song Dynasty (960-1279) that traveled around Wenzhou practicing medicine to save people. Chen was honored as a prototype of the city's TCM culture and has become a calling card in promoting TCM to the world.

Many foreign experts also attended the forum through online channels and shared their reflections on TCM culture.

Ramon Calduch, founding vice-president of the European Foundation of Traditional, Complementary, and Integrative Medicine, said that many European countries have included TCM in their national health systems, complementing the curative effects of western medicine to realize a wider coverage of national fitness.

Frederico Carvalho, secretary of the CT 212 Traditional and Complementary Medicine Technical, gave an introduction on TCM regulations in Portugal and extended his hope that TCM would be promoted across the world.

Statistics show that there are currently over 500,000 professional acupuncturists and more than 300,000 private TCM clinics around the world. TCM has been recognized by more and more countries, especially for its important role in the effective prevention and treatment of COVID-19.

The forum was a sideline event of the 2021 World Young Scientist Summit, which will run in Wenzhou from Nov 13 to 14.
