The 2021 World Young Scientist Summit kicked off in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province on Nov 13, local media outlets reported.

Held in both online and offline venues, the summit attracted the participation of 13 Nobel Prize winners, 118 academicians, as well as hundreds of young scientists from home and abroad.

Focusing on what younger generations can do for the sustainable development of human beings, participants delved into cutting-edge topics like climate change, life sciences, digital economy, smart computing, future technology, peak carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality, as well as new materials. They also discussed and brainstormed many possibilities on implementing key strategies like the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as China's long-term goal of achieving common prosperity.

A total of 47 activities are being held online and offline during the summit, including: a roundtable discussion for young science and technology leaders across the globe; forums on topics like brain health and functional rehabilitation, bio-diversity, and digital economy standards; an academic seminar on nutrition research and public health; an awards ceremony for innovative scientific research; a matchmaking conference for entrepreneurial investments, as well as a conference on international environmental research.

The summit is held annually by the China Association for Science and Technology, as well as the Zhejiang provincial government. It has become an important international event in the field of science and technology, as well as a calling card for domestic young scientists to express themselves on an international platform.
