The nighttime economy is booming in Wenzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, especially in its Lucheng and Ouhai districts, local media outlets reported.
As a model in promoting the nighttime economy in Zhejiang province, Lucheng has developed 17 characteristic nighttime culture and tourism brands in recent years, aiming to provide tourists and local residents with diverse experiences.
Tanghe Yehua, which invites people for an enjoyable night cruise on the Tanghe River, quickly gained popularity after opening to the public last year. People taking the ride can not only enjoy the boat stirring in the tranquil waters at night, but also immerse themselves in light shows, as well as singing and dancing performances that echo the culture and history of Wenzhou. The cruise has been included in the incubation list of the Zhejiang provincial department of culture and tourism.
Statistics show that the four-day nighttime shopping festival held in Lucheng in May attracted more than 52,000 people, generating over 360 million yuan ($56.59 million) in consumption.
Located on the other side of the city, Ouhai district is gearing up to invest 6 billion yuan in 22 nighttime culture and tourism projects, including a gourmet food town, a music village, as well as a museum complex.
Its efforts to develop its nighttime economy have also been paying off, represented by the five-day fair market held on the banks of the Tanghe River in April that attracted nearly 380,000 visitors from over 150 cities across the country, generating 83 million yuan in total revenue.
In addition to the main urban area, the flourishing nighttime economy has also spread to Rui'an, with the county-level city realizing over 10 million yuan in revenue from a four-day online and offline nighttime shopping festival.
