Wenzhou in East China's Zhejiang province has in recent years been making efforts to inject vitality into its scientific research environment, local media outlets reported.
In addition to earmarking 260 million yuan ($40.74 million) for scientific research this year, Wenzhou has also founded a 200-million-yuan fund to support the permanent location of the World Young Scientists Summit (WYSS) in the city. The WYSS has become a calling card that reflects Wenzhou's scientific endeavors and ambitions.
Statistics show that as of October this year, the 2020 WYSS has seen seven strategic agreements and 15 high-end innovative platforms starting operations in Wenzhou. A total of 47 start-up companies that were incubated by WYSS and have a combined annual revenue of 156 million yuan have also been registered.
The 2021 WYSS had on Nov 13 also set up a foundation to bolster the growth of young scientists. The foundation has already attracted donations worth more than 60 million yuan. The city is also actively improving its equity, option and dividend policies for researchers.
By the end of October, Wenzhou had brought in five academicians and top experts, as well as attracted 209,500 professionals from all walks of life. Three scientific research achievements won the 2020 National Science and Technology Awards, the highest in the past five years.
