Household registration for newborns across the entire Yangtze River Delta region, which encompasses Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui provinces and Shanghai municipality, was unified starting on Nov 23.
The policy adjustment is part of efforts by police departments across the YRD to promote the integrated development of general public service in the region.
Whenever a married couple of the same ethnicity gives birth to an infant within the YRD region, either party holding a household registration certificate issued by a certain locality in the region can apply to obtain the newborn's household registration certificate issued by the same locality. The application can be accepted by a police department of any locality in the YRD, including the birthplace of the newborn.
This means that a person migrating from one place to another within YRD no longer has to travel back to his or her place of origin to handle the household registration for the newborn.
